Economy Update December 2017

2017 accomplishments for Goal 1: Support small business and entrepreneurial growth

An incredibly exciting endeavor in the Fayette Visioning plan is building a community of high-tech and creative startups. StartUp Fayette is part of an economic development strategy that Fayette and surrounding counties have recently embraced that focuses on fostering nontraditional businesses with a potential for high growth.

StartUp Fayette’s mission is to create an ecosystem in Fayette County and the surrounding area that catalyzes innovation and growth through entrepreneurial startups. StartUp Fayette currently meets four times a year on fifth Thursdays and plans to host a half-day forum on April 24.

Goal 2: Attract, retain and expand businesses that employ Fayette residents

We are seeing results after two years of focused effort in marketing Fayette County.  In the last 18 months, the Fayette County Development Authority has had more than 30 active projects considering our county, a significant increase from the prior two years. Also, five existing industries have expanded with nearly $72 million in investments and 120 new jobs.  Another exciting announcement is Fayetteville’s new business park located at Veteran’s Parkway and Highway 54.

Goal 3:  Develop a sustainable film and entertainment cluster

Fayette County’s most famous business, Pinewood Atlanta Studios, is now the second-largest film studio in North America.  Two other studios, Founders Studio in Tyrone and Cinema Studios South in North Fayette have been announced. This year, the Georgia General Assembly expanded its film incentives to include post-production which opens up new opportunities for Fayette County.
